Arizona Board of Regents—Tuition Setting for Arizona Universities (September 2011, Report No. 11-11)

One of the Board's most important responsibilities is to annually set tuition for the State's three universities. Statute prescribes requirements that the Board must follow in setting tuition, and the Board has established policies that incorporate these requirements, including obtaining student input and conducting at least one public hearing on proposed tuition changes. Each university uses tuition revenues along with other revenues to support activities such as student instruction and student services. Reductions in state funding for the universities have contributed to increased tuition rates, but many students pay less than the published tuition rate, and the universities have taken steps to mitigate the impact of tuition increases on students.
