This report focuses on the efforts currently underway in the State to address computer
systems and other operational issues associated with the year 2000 problem. A review of a
cross section of 72 state agencies was conducted, revealing varying levels of progress
toward ensuring computer systems will process data accurately at the turn of the century.
While agencies that operate large, mainframe computer systems report that the majority of
their systems are on schedule for timely compliance, agencies operating mid-range or small
computer systems report that several systems are already compliant. However, several
agencies are faced with turnover among critical programming staff that could delay
compliance efforts. GITAs monitoring efforts of agency year 2000 projects have,
until recently, been limited to the large state agencies that receive funding through GITA
for their conversion projects.
